SOLD! Our first China based auction, in partnership with EJEE’s Eachnic.com platform, was a clear success with 24 out of 26 names meeting or exceeding their reserves and successfully selling. The total sales from the auction was $134,654. The auction, conducted over 5 consecutive nights, featured 25 two-letter domains and one single letter name, C.club. All of the two letter names sold except for MH.club. Bidding for the single letter “C.club” topped out at $40,000, but did not meet the reserve.
This was .CLUB’s first auction in China, and the first auction held on EachNic’s fully bi-lingual platform. While the auction was held in China, it was very important for us that bidding was open and easy for anyone to participate in English or Chinese and the EachNic team, with support from Allegravita, did a great job conducting an auction that was simple to participate in and follow along.
Out of respect for the buyers it is the practice in China not to announce the specific final prices for individual names, but we can say (since he revealed it on his blog) that Mike Berkens of Right of the Dot was the successful buyer of PC.club for $9,750. 13 names (54% of those sold) exceeded their reserve, and 9 names (37.5% of those sold) exceeded their reserve by 10% or more. 5 names (21% 0f those sold) exceeded their reserve by 20% or more. The average price paid for the 24 names sold was $5,610.58.
China is a key market for .CLUB, as the word “Club” in English is widely used and recognized. Just walk down the street of any Chinese city and you are likely to encounter the word “Club” in a sign or business name. The success of this auction speaks to both the growing popularity of .CLUB domains in China, as well as the strong demand in the Chinese domain investment community for short, meaningful domains. All of the two-letter names sold in the auction have multiple meanings in Chinese and also can represent initials for meaningful Western names.
