When I was growing up there was a popular ad campaign for a cigarette brand that had customers claiming “We’d rather fight than switch!” At times that seems to be the way some folks would like to position the role of .com versus all the new domain name extensions that are being introduced.
The truth is, the value and opportunity around the new domain extensions is not necessarily all about getting websites to switch from a .com to a new domain name. Sure, if you were not able to get the .com name you really wanted, or if there is a new domain extension that really resonates with your brand you may indeed switch (and we’ve seen many existing clubs now re-directing their old .com address to their new .club address). However, even if you have a great .com (or other) domain name already, there are still many benefits and opportunities to use additional domain names and new domain extensions in your marketing efforts.
That’s the topic of a webinar I will will be presenting today at 2pm ET.* “Marketing In A World Beyond .COM: Integrating A Multiple Domain Name Strategy” is part of the Momentum Events group’s gTLD & Digital Marketing Strategy Webinar Series, and I am very happy to be able to participate. Here’s a short description of the FREE webinar:
The Internet has changed forever with the ongoing introduction of hundreds of new domain name extensions. Now, instead of .com, .net, .org and a few others, anyone can select domain names ending in .Guru, .CLUB, .photography, .wiki, .london, .nyc and many, many more.
What does this mean for marketers? This webinar will explore how creative brands and marketers can seize this opportunity and re-think their Domain Name Strategy. We’ll show real-world examples of how you can leverage multiple domain names to grow your business and make all aspects of your business easier for customers to find and understand.
If it sounds interesting you can register here for free.*
Thanks to the Momentum Events team for giving me the opportunity to share my thoughts on this topic.
